Interview Prep
Interview Preparation
Interviews are obviously an integral part of the recruitment process. You could be the best engineer in the world but if you don’t interview well it will limit your career opportunities. This is why we advise you to follow these simple steps before your interview:
- Know your CV inside out.
- Do your homework on your potential employer; have a look on the website, speak to people in the know so you can gather as much information as you can.
- Research your interviewer. Most people are on LinkedIn these days so have a look on their profiles.
- Have ready made examples of different working scenarios you have come across.
- Prepare for common questions such as:
- What are your strengths and weaknesses? – Always turn your weaknesses into a positive and discuss how you are addressing them.
- What do you know about our company?
- How did you get into this particular line of work?
- Once you’ve done your homework, set some time aside with your consultant for a pre interview chat to ensure you are best prepared.
The Dos and Don’ts of interviewing:
Dos:
- Ensure you know the exact place and time. Nothing worse than being late, it really does set a bad first impression. Better to be a few minutes early, but not too early.
- Dress appropriately. If you are interviewing for an engineer position smart casual is normally fine. However, if you are applying for a senior position best to wear a dark suit with matching shirt and tie. It’s much better to be overdressed than underdressed. Always best to confirm with your agent beforehand.
- Wait until you are offered a chair before sitting down.
- Eye contact – always look the interviewer in the eye.
- Always best to allow the interviewer to describe the role and duties early on so you can relate your experience and skillset to the role.
Don’ts:
- Slouch – it comes across like you’re not interested or too laid back. Try to look alert and express interest.
- DO NOT lie – answer truthfully.
- Leave any questions on salary, holidays etc for the second stage or get in touch with Bauhaus to discuss this for you. If the interviewer brings it up feel free to do so.
Remember Bauhaus are with you every step of the way. If you need any further advice please do not hesitate to get in touch.
CV Advice
How to write a CV | Essential Tips
Writing a suitable CV is one of the most important things you can do when applying for opportunities. At Bauhaus we have compiled some of our tips of best practice to help provide some guidance.
CV stands for Curriculum Vitae. It is an important document that people use when applying for jobs. Writing an excellent CV is crucial if you want to demonstrate your talents and experience in the right way and land yourself the right position. If you believe that you are perfectly experienced for a particular position but you are not getting interviews, it may mean that your CV does not highlight your attributes in the right way and may need to rethink your approach.
Choose the Best Format
The first and foremost essential tip while writing a CV is to choose the best CV format. In a competitive job market, employers receive a huge amount of CVs for any particular position and many spend very little time reviewing any particular CV so it is key for your experience and suitability to stand out.
Begin by creating an outline for your CV. Key sections should include:
- Name, Location, Contact details
- Profile
- Key Skills/Accreditations
- Work History
- Education
To make your CV easy to read and to the point we recommend:
- Make sure that there is consistency in the layout of your CV. Make all the headings bold.
- Use a legible font size of 11 to 12 pt.
- Keep every sentence brief and to the point and use bullet points for your skills and responsibilities
- Avoid large paragraphs of texts where possible.
- Never use text boxes
Profile
The key to a good profile is to keep it reasonably short, factual and appropriate for the job which you are applying. Briefly summarize your qualities and experience and how this relates to the role.
Key Skills/Accreditation
Many candidates, particularly those in engineering, have huge skill sets and accreditations but many do not list these on their CV. Saving space here is not a requirement so do your best to include all of your skills and abilities. Many believe their skills to be obvious based on their experience but is not always the case. Often it can be HR departments who are reviewing your CV and they do not always understand the nuances involved in your experience. To give a more comprehensive view be as thorough as possible here.
Work History
Listing your work experience may be the most important aspect of CV writing. It allows hiring managers the opportunity to see exactly what experience you have and if possible, you should list your full work history but this would be a huge task for some contractors. If this is the case for yourself try to list all the long term works you have done, any specialist jobs that may apply.
Your experience should be listed in reverse chronological order with your most recent position at the top. You should list the name of the company you worked for, your job title and as accurately as possible you must list the time periods in which you worked. Then it would be preferable to see a short couple of sentences briefly outlining the job itself and then bullet points of your responsibilities and tasks undertaken.
Education
This should be a fairly straight forward part of the process. You should approach this in the same vain as your work history section and include the educational body/school/college/university, the name of your qualifications and your grades.
All our guidance here is general and based on our cumulative experience. Some companies and clients may have different requirements and if applying via Bauhaus we will work together with you to create a CV the shows your experience in a suitable way.

Very well organised and offering a great flexibility and understanding of the requirements of the industry, Bauhaus was able to set a process in place for us which has proved to be a great advantage in fulfilling both long-term and short-term resource requirements for our business. We were impressed by their innovative approach to problem-solving and issue-resolution.
- I would like to add my thanks and appreciation to you and your team, who assisted in providing this resource – and the honest and helpful manner in which changes during the project were handled. This project was very important to us with regards to the onward development of the Stafford site and I had no hesitation in requesting assistance from Bauhaus to meet this challenge. I look forward to working with you and your team in the future.
- We have found the quality of staff supplied by Bauhaus to be high at all times and have never encountered any problems. They are punctual, good communicators, hard working and good in customer-facing situations.
- The team at Bauhaus listen to their customers and take that extra time to understand exactly what we require in order to meet our customers’ expectations. We are happy to recommend Bauhaus Consultants to other companies.
- Bauhaus is efficient, dedicated and always willing to help with even the shortest of deadlines. They have assisted us with both small- and large-scale projects and have become of particular use to us with our largest national client in areas such as Scotland, where we had previously struggled to resource labour.

Technical recruitment specialists
Specialist technical recruitment
We have a tightly defined focus: finding great people, quickly.
Well, you know what they say about being a ‘Jack of all trades’. We prefer to stick to what we know really well – and aim high; to be the best in our field.
We stick to what we know
We work in just these strategic sectors:
- Structured Cabling
- Data Centre
- Fire & Security
- Telecoms
- Network Specialists
- Project Management
- Smart Motorways
Most of these sectors are by-products of each other and this focus makes us efficient. It means we can excel in just a few chosen sectors rather than plod along trying to serve many. Each sector is supported by its own dedicated team, handling both permanent and contract jobs. Our management team is one of the most experienced in the industry.
Our teams
Nowhere is this more important than our knowledge of the roles for which we’re recruiting. They’re not just random job titles that we don’t understand – our expertise in each of our industries enables us to properly understand what our clients are looking for and then meet their needs each time and every time. Our team comprises of people who each have in-depth experience of the sector which they support. We understand our clients’ needs, because we understand their industry.
Every placement is important
We have a flexible service that can scale with each client’s needs – we can deliver just a single contractor, working on a timesheet basis, or larger, bespoke solutions which are developed around a client’s specific needs.
We understand our clients’ pressures
Recruitment companies tend to think about jobs as just matching a person to a role. While that’s partly true, it’s important to remember that behind this is a real business need – it’s this that drives timescales, costs, the need for specific skills or the requirement to have a particular range of experience. We take this on board, understanding that the advertised job has a far deeper importance than being ‘just another candidate to supply’.
EV Charging
The electric vehicle (EV) revolution is already here. Battery life is rapidly improving and there are now over 140,000 electric vehicles on the roads and 20,000 public charge points installed across the UK – not to mention the huge number of privately-owned chargers being installed.
There’s a huge demand for expert personnel who can enable companies to take advantage of the sector’s enormous opportunities. It isn’t overstating the case to say that there is a real war for talent going on in the EV sector because the companies at the top of their game are usually the best because they hire the very best people. Talent is an organisation’s most powerful resource and strongest differentiator. Bauhaus can help you find and secure the very best people – not just the ones who happen to be available.
Those hard-to-find people - niche professionals aren’t usually on job boards or Linked-In because they’re already successful and well looked after. They’re the best new hires you could ever make – and it’s our job to find them.
Bauhaus recruit for leading companies within the EV sector including OEMs, Electric Vehicle Manufacturers, Infrastructure Suppliers, Charge Point Operators, Mobility As A Service (MAAS) companies and Installation Contractors.
We recruit all levels and disciplines in the sector from design and projects specialists, acquisition and supply chain personnel, sales and marketing professionals and software developers.
Let us help you with your new hires – we promise you that you won’t regret your decision.
Here are some examples of the disciplines we recruit for:
