Structured Cabling Engineer

Bauhaus Recruitment are currently resourcing for Lead Structured Cabling Engineers for a permanent position covering nationwide projects from a base in the Burgess Hill, West Sussex area.

Job Description

We are seeking a field-based engineer to lead structured cabling installation projects across the UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering site-based activities to a high standard, ensuring timely and professional project completion.

Key responsibilities include:

• Conducting site surveys and attending pre-installation meetings

• Planning cable routes and overcoming site access/logistical challenges

• Leading on-site project delivery teams

• Installing structured cabling systems (Cat 6/6A/7)

• Installing secondary containment (basket, trunking, conduit, copex)

• Installing and dressing communication cabinets and server racks

• Terminating, testing, and labelling patch panels and data outlets

• Tracing and fault-finding data cabling issues

• Maintaining internal documentation and drawings

• Liaising with site trades, office, and project management teams

• Upholding health & safety and industry standards on all sites

Duration

• Permanent

Rate

• £32,000 – £36,000 basic

• £38,000 – £43,000 OTE (including away allowances and overtime)

Hours

• Core hours: Monday to Friday, 07:00 – 15:30

• Overtime available (commonly 2 hours/day Tues–Thurs when working away)

Candidate qualifications and attributes

• Minimum 3 years' experience in structured cabling installations

• Proven ability with Cat 5e/6/6A/7 systems

• Experience using Fluke or LanTek analysers

• Able to interpret and work from construction drawings

• Self-motivated with strong leadership and communication skills

• Quality-focused with attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability

• Customer-focused with a flexible and professional approach

• Valid CSCS/ECS card

• PASMA/IPAF (desirable)

• SSSTS qualification (desirable)

• Full UK driving licence

• Willingness to work nationwide and stay away from home regularly

Additional Information

• Based from Burgess Hill, West Sussex – must be within commuting distance

• Travel time policies apply (first and last hour of journey unpaid)

• Away work includes overnight meal allowance:

  • £20 per night plus £5 on return day

  • Additional £20/night paid via salary for away work

• Use of company van
